We’ve always said that if J has to go out of town for work, we all go with him. It’s just how we roll.  But a couple weeks ago he had meetings 5 hours away, and he looked at me a few days before and said “you know what, let’s go, just the two of us”. It had been an emotionally difficult past two weeks, and we needed to get away and spent some quality time together. We have never had a night away from all four littles, we’ve left the older three with grandma a couple times before, but little Dolly has always come with us.  So, we did. We dropped all the littles off at grandma’s in the morning, and headed out on our mini getaway!

Once we arrived, J took me to this little Italian restaurant he always goes to after his meetings, it was amazing. We had a relaxing lunch, and then I dropped him off at his meeting and headed out to meet my friend at the beach for some girl time!  Her and I had such a nice afternoon, we hung out at the beach with her little guy, attempted a photo shoot of each other and us together (attempted being the key word here!) walked to an awesome bakery just down the road and got some amazing pizza, and then headed to the park so her little man could play while we ate our dinner! Afterwards we went to her house and relaxed until I had to head out to pick J up from his meeting.

We arrived at the hotel, and upon checking in were told that we got a complimentary upgrade to the executive suite, which was perfect! It had a huge deck, up on the 8th floor, overlooking the river and the city skyline in the distance.  We dropped off our bags in the room, had a look around, and headed down to the outdoor bar area to relax and have a drink together, undisturbed by our littles. It was exactly what we had been needing.

Let me tell you, I slept so well! The next morning I woke up in exactly the same position I’d fallen asleep in! I have not slept that deep in 8 years.  That was the first time I have not been woken up by someone in the night since our oldest was born (she’s now 7 ½!).

We ordered breakfast to the room, and wouldn’t you know, just as I went to take my first bite, my phone rang. It was my littles calling to say good morning. My breakfast was cold by the time I got around to eating it, but you know what? I didn’t mind at all. I realized that as much as I loved sleeping without being woken up, and going out with hubby without interruption, I loved being a mom more. Those moments will come, the littles won’t be little forever, and I’ll never get this time back again.  It made me appreciate and love my littles even more, and while I won’t turn down a night or two away every so often, I also won’t be upset if they don’t happen again before the littles are big…

Our hotel room deck!
J had meetings right after breakfast, so I just hung out at the hotel, taking lame selfies on the deck, haha!  Our drive home was so peaceful and we did have some great conversations, but we also had some quiet peaceful moments, just enjoying the company of one another and enjoying the silence!  I found myself getting so excited the closer we got to home, I couldn’t wait to see my littles and give them all huge hugs.

Overall it was a great trip, and we were so thankful for the opportunity to get away, in the midst of our crazy busy life, and enjoy being just a husband and wife again.

Thanks for reading 🙂

PS I know, I got no photos of J and I together *facepalm*
