It has been unseasonably cold the past couple days. A thick blanket of smoke is covering the valley, preventing it from getting very warm. My friend came up to stay with me while J is away on a fishing trip, and rather than let the weather get the best of us, we decided to make the best of it and go check out the local dairy farm with the kids !! I mean there are worse ways to spend a cold summer day with 6 kids 8 and under !
We arrived and the first thing the kids wanted to do was get ice cream (and let’s be real, I was right there with them!), so we braved the ridiculously long line up (like come on. It wasn’t even hot out. Why was it so busy ?! I mean besides the fact that it’s summer in the okanagan and E V E R Y T H I N G is busy here in the summer) to get us all cones. While standing in line the slightly insecure parents behind us made the remark that they were glad they weren’t the only “bad parents” feeding their kids ice cream for lunch (not in those exact words, but similar!), and I couldn’t help but think we were actually the awesome parents !! No shame in my ice cream game !! (We may or may not have done the same thing at a different ice cream shop yesterday …)

While we munched on our ice cream we took the kids to see the adorable calves, trying to keep the ice cream at least semi clean. I semi-bribed my youngest to stand still for a mini photo shoot with the promise of checking out the big momma cows, which we did directly after that. We then started to walk around and check out the other random farm animals, but as we did, we started to feel a couple drops of rain, so we piled back into the vehicles and headed home, bellies full of bubblegum ice cream, shoes only slightly covered in manure !!

I really am not minding this break from the crazy heat we always get in the summer. It’s nice to be able to turn off the ac and turn on the oven again !

What are some of the things you like to do on cooler days ??
